All about your people....

Oskar invited us to participate in the All About your People Day!
As always... I am late....

We live in Torreon, Coahuila.
North of Mexico.

I live with my mom in a ridiculously small mini apartment built in the same ground of my grandparent's house.

Due to my grandpa's job, the family lived in different cities. They were living in Saltillo (capital of the state) where my mom studied to be a Secretary and Accountant. She never put in practice those skills. When she finished those studies she went to the University to study Plastic Arts, which is something she really loved at that time.
There she met a water-color painter and a few months later they got engaged. And, one month before the wedding my mom knew that she was not going to be happy with him and said bye bye to the artist.

Then, when she finished the second year in the Arts school, like many people in Mexico she had to quit her studies to start working. She got a job at an Advertising Agency where she developed her "artistic" skills.

One year later, someone came to offer her a job at a local TV Channel. He wanted her to be a newscaster. My mom thought she was not prepared for that and instead of that post, she took the Floor Manager spot.

There, she met a newscaster and a few months later they got engaged. And.... yes... the same story. He was very jelaous and that caused to my mom not to be herself and she felt scared of his behavior so... she said bye bye to the newscaster. But... he did not want to let her go and gave her hard times. Then, my grandpa talked with the family about wanting to come to live to Torreon, where all his family live. That was the chance for my mom to get rid of that man.

Here in Torreon, my mom got a job as a Purchasing Manager at an industrial plant. And that was funny because she knew ZERO about that and going from arts, advertising and television to industrial purchases was an interesting process.

There, she met an Accountant who was in charge of the Finances of the company. They got engaged and.... haaaa! once again... not the right person.

Since then, my mom decided to be a bachelor girl... and now is an "old maid"!

Things happen for a reason...

My mom goes to work at 7:15 am and comes back at 6:00 pm.
While she is at work, I stay with my grandparents who take very good care of me.

My grandpa is an Agronomist Engineer. He is retired now. And he is my naps mate.

My grandma has been a housewife for almost all her life. She is wonderful. She is the best cook. She makes magic with her hands. Knitting, needlework, stained glass... all the crafs you can imagine and of course... she makes my harness/dresses.
She always has time to play with me and we have lots of fun together.

I love them a lot.

Thanks Oskar for giving us the chance to talk about our people!

Have a pawesome day!

What an interesting story, Lorenza. We didn't realize you live so close to your grandma and grandpa. She makes such beautiful clothes for you.

And your mom has a varied job history. She's versatile. As to the engagements .... according to Jan, being single is much better than being married to a man who is not right for you. That can be lonely and sometimes dangerous.

Fo never met his human grandmother :) but she made me (his human Mom lots of dresses!). Strange, no? It is over 90F here every day and has been for weeks...There are hardly ever dogs outside. If they are outside, they are panting. Fo wants to eat my ice cream, so I mixed up a test batch of your yogurt/peanut butter (and I added cinnamon). It is in the freezer, so we will see how that goes later tonight. I thought it might be hard to mix without using the blender, but it mixed up pretty easily with a spoon. I think he will like it.

Oh Lorenza - thanks for telling us about your people! Your Mom has had a very interesting life! Hsin-Yi says she can relate because she has also done many different jobs - all totally different from what she studied - and she also once had a very jealous boyfriend! It was not good! She says she thinks it is better to be 'alone' and to be free and happy - than to be with the wrong person and be very unhappy all the time, just to be in a relationship. She thinks your Mom is very brave.

Anyway, that was a great post - I loved learning more about your family!

Our mom's grandfather, was an Agricultural Economsit and worked for the UN all over the world. Wonder if he met your grandfather!!!

Don't worry about your mom being an "old maid" She just has not met the right man. She works hard and loves you, so that is good for her and her heart (Our Mom knows of this- she had bad taste in men, and it came out after the wedding!!!! Thankfully your mom knew before! Now we are safe and Mom and Dad are the bestest!)

Haaa, your mom an old maid by choice like mine? I hope she's not as nutty as mine is ... No wonder my mom says she relates to lots of your posts. She's a writer, aka artistic, and also does not like men to boss her around. I will introduce you some day :)
Thanks Lorenza. I love how you told the story. I bet Oskar must be one happy dude with al the gossip he's stirred up.

Dear Lorenza...

I've been bad about visiting blogs lately, so I decided to do a bit of 'catch up' on your blog today. I really loved this post...learning a little bit about your Mom, your Granny and your Grandpa.
Yes...it's amazing how quickly life turns around...it sounds like your mom has been through so much heartache too...but turned out exactly where she needs to be eventually!

You are so lucky to have such an amazing Granny too...and the story (today) of the various ways your Granny cooks cactus is fascinating.

Thank you for being our friends, Lorenza. We might not visit your blog every day, but you have come to be an important part of our lives. Thank you for that!

By the way...your Santos dress was superb! ...and I'm not surprised that they wanted to take a photo for their restaurant!

Please send your Granny lots of our love too. Lotsaluv to you and your Mom!

It was so interesting to find out more about your Mom and Grandparents. Grammy says that your Mom was very wise to find out BEFORE getting married that the men weren't right for her because she knows several people that weren't that wise and ended up hurt - either emotionally or also physically! Besides, she never knows... maybe someone really nice will still come along, or she might just stay happy going along the way things are going.

Whichever, you have a great sounding family, and that is what is best for all. Grammy's Mom was from Chihuahua... wonder if that is why she liked those little dogs so much? The Country Corgis
