Nopales/cactus

Nopales is something that lots of people eat here in Mexico. They are nutritious and have lots of medical benefits. My grandma cooks them in various ways...

My grandpa and my grandma love to eat them. I love them too. My grandma gives them to me in my veggie soup at noon.
And my mom... ? Well, my mom is another story. She does not like them. There is no way you can make her to eat them... Nope! No way! Yuck!

Then, the other day, my grandma went to the supermarket and there she found them dehydrated with chili. At home she told my mom to taste a little piece. And my mom loved it! And now it is my mom's favorite snack.

They don't look so yummy...

I decided to investigate them...

I tasted it...

And I did not like it!
I prefer the ones my grandma gives to me!

Have a good night

Those look most suspiciously like the things that bite my paws with their pointy things. Don't they hurt when you eat 'em? What do they taste like?

Lorenza my mom has eaten those in Yuma, Arizona. A lady gave her some in a salad and some that she had grilled. Mom says they are delicious. Maybe your mom will put some in YOUR dehydrator.

The sound very interesting. We googled and couldn't find any restaurants that have them here, although there seems to be one in Chicago that specializes in them. We hope that they have them here soon so we can try them.

lotsa licks, Lola

Nopales obviously means to your mom what okra means to mine. Ugh. Sorry you didn't enjoy the treats. They didn't look so appealing either. I know you read my last post though and I know you can get some of your beloved chicken strips. You want to know how? By being you.

Our Grammy REALLY doesn't like those either! Her Mama used to make them in different dishes, too, but usually in eggs. Grammy never got a taste for them, but her sisters did. She wonders if she would like the new way though. She didn't like the sort of "slimy" taste that she thinks is a lot like okra, but that new way looked like it might have been dried, and that might make it better.

Hey our tortoise and turtles eat those cactus but mom has a hard time finding them so she sometimes has to order them 3 lbs at time. :)
