Mad...
Sad...
Can you see the reason?
Yesterday I went to the vet. It was time for vaccines, nails clipped and a general check up. Everything was going well. I even let Dr. Sergio to take my blood for the tests. While the test was running I got two vaccines and he clipped my nails. Then he went to another room for the results. He came back and told my mom about them. Pancreas, liver, kidneys, everthing looks pretty good. But there is an issue with my cholesterol. It is one point higher than normal. He said that could be controlled with a change of diet. Low fat diet! My mom told him about the amount of food and treats I get everyday and he said that was not the cause to be obese. He put me on the scale and effectively I gained 4 pounds since the last time.
Then while he was reviewing me, he noticed that I have been losing hair behind my ears and my chest. He said that this probably means a problem with my thyroid gland. Problem is thyroid test is the only one his equipment can't do it. And there is no one here that can make them. Only for humans. My mom started crying and Dr. Sergio told her no to worry. That given the case it can be controlled with meds. He told my mom that he was going to look for someone who could make the test for me.

Today morning he called my mom to tell her that he had found someone and asked to her to take me to the clinic for another blood sample. There we went. As soon as I knew where we were going I said "Oh, no. Not again"! But I let him took my blood again. Now, we have to wait until next wednesday to know the results.
For now, I will only eat this "Obesity Management" food and no treats!
Please, tell my mom not to worry, that I will be fine. That if my thyroid its not working correctly now it can be controlled with a treatment!
Thanks!
Have a good night

Lorenza - hopefully your test will come back and say that you are just fine, and that your mom just needs to play with you more and take you for more walks. Even if you do have thyroid problems, medicine can help you, so do not worry too much, ok?

Hi Lorenza...
I'm sure everything is going to be fine and if your thyroid is broken, I'm sure they'll be able to fix it right up!
My paws are crossed!!!
Lots of Licks, Ruby
Hi Lorenza, don't worry, you're a young kid and in good health. if your thyroid gland is messed up, the doctor can fix it. that's what doctors do. tell your mom it will be okay. really. it will be okay.
and we're very very very sorry that you can't have any treats for a week. that is a big bummer. we will be anxious to hear about your test results and get you back on eating treats. you don't look fat to us! you look beautiful. and all of your dresses still fit, right? that's how you can really tell - not by the stupid doctor's scale.
woofers!
No treat what an outrage. We think you are perfect the way you are. Tell you mom not to worry about the thyroid test. Medicine is a great thing now.
Hi Lorenza,
I hope your thyroid is ok. Mommy said she hears that dachshies can have genetic hair loss behind the ears, on the belly and neck area and as long as the skin looks normal, and we are not itchy then it's ok. My sister Lucy has this a little bit and the vet man said everything is OK! We sure hope you are fine and you're beautiful even if you have to eat obesity food, heh-heh...we eat Weight Management purina pro plan so don't feel bad!
xoxo,
Ricky
Don't worry too much, Lorenza's mom -- our golden retriever Lindsey had a thyroid condition, took a pill for it every day for many years, and lived to the ripe old age of 16! We're keeping our fingers crossed that it's a false alarm, anyway, though.

Oh, Lorenza, I know how you are feeling. My mom recently changed my diet too and I can't have people food any more. I was very sad a sulky for the first few days. I thought I did something wrong, but she gave me lots of hugs and walkies so I cheered up. Now I get very little bites which is better than nothing.
Just FYI, I like your girlish figure!
Hugs and licks, Clive
There has to be something wrong with the scales! How could the vet say you are OBESE? Keep us posted when the results for the tyrod tests are out. Please give your Mom lotsa licks and kisses. You'll be okay...we will be thinking of you!
Lorenza -
Don't feel bad - I'm on "tubby puppy" food too. Personally - I think you are very thin, I mean I weigh 82 pounds!!
Love ya - Dory
Oh no, Lorenza! What sad news, for this time of year especially. :-(
Tell your mom you'll be fine. I have problems with my insides too, and I do just fine as long as I eat my special food. Maybe you'll get to eat baby carrots like me?! Those are the best!
Oh Lorenza, you are the perfect size. But, if you need to take some medicine or eat a special diet, that will be OK, too. Zorra does. She's fine! By the way, you have been tagged. Check it out on our site.

Lorenza HM and I both hope you are ok and like you say if there is something wrong with your thryoid there's medicine to help you deal with that.
We'll be keeping an eye out for an update of how the test goes.
Hugs, River
Lorenza,
You be perfect the way you are. We will keep our paws crossed for you. If something wrong with your thyroid, there are little pills you can take. Pugsley takes Thyro-tab for hypothyroidism.

Hi Loreza,
You will not like to hear this but I think weight management is essential for you. Daschie can be more prone to slipped disc issue if they are over weight. I have been through that (No I am not fat. I weight only 4.68kg) and I know how painful it is for both me and my hoomans. So its good to maintain at healthy weight from young.
Dun worry about the blood test. You look very healthy all along. We will be praying for you.
Luv,
Snowball
How could anybody think you are fat!! I don't believe it & neither does the Mommy. Tell your Mommy not to worry about your thyroid since there are lots of medicine for that.
There are lots of treats you can have that aren't fattening and Mommy's Samantha ate Obesty food & she loved it.
Love and huggies.......Mona
oh your poor mom tell her not to worry! :) thyroid problem can be controlled, no problem! Butchy and Snickers both have it and they are doing so great :) i think it's pretty common :)
hee hee does the new food taste any worse than the old?
love..

Hi Lorenza, Very Old Dog here. (My name is Giacomino. I don't know why everyone in blogland calls me Very Old Dog, but that's ok. I have taken thyroid medicine for over a year now, and it's no problem. I don't even mind the taste of the pill, so the Servant just tosses one in my dinner every night. (Pretend you don't like the pill, and your Mom will put it in cheese and peanut butter and good stuff.)
I felt GRREAT after I started taking the thyroid medicine! Glad all your other tests came out so well, and tell your Mom not to worry.
Polite licks-
Giacomino of the whippet waggle
Hi Lorenza, You certainly don't look fat to me, but if you are having thyroid problems, it is easily managed and nothing to worry about. Most of us girls wish we could blame a little extra weight on that!
xo
SB
Well Lorenza, you didnt look Fat to me...I think you are pawfectly nice. No worries, Im sure you will be fine....eventhough med are yucky. Please give more sweet licks to ya mom....
I don't think you are fat at all. Tanner is fat, you are not fat! I hope your Mom is not worrying too much, tell her you will be fine!
I hope you aren't very sick, Lorenza! You should eat the obesity management food with good humor so that your Mom doesn't get worried. I'm sure you will be fine. My sister eats low-fat food, and she likes it okay. I hope you feel better!
Poppy
Oh no Lorenza, that's not right. I think you're at a pawfect shape now
~ Girl girl
what nonsense, this obesity programme! it's only proper for a dog to weigh slightly more than he desires.
will a seafood diet help with the thyroid problem?
Oh Lorenza!
I am sorriest ever!!!!! What a bummer about the food and treat situation:((((((( I am hoping for a good test result on Wed., okay! Talk to you soonest!
Your Friend,
Putter ...:)
Lorenza, we know about that nasty "obesity" word. Our vet has used it before. Roxie and Sammy eat weight management food too. The way Sammy inhales it, it must be tasty too. The new food should take care of your cholesterol.
As for your thyroid, tell your mom not to worry. It may be nothing or it may mean you need to take a pill or two for the rest of your very long and cute life. From all of the comments here, it sounds like taking a pill or two isn't a problem. We hope there isn't a problem with your tyroid but it would only be an inconvenience and your mom would not have gotten a dachsie if she didn't like SOME inconvenience!
We hope you get the treat thing worked out. There must be some treats that won't cause problems. We have get some weight management treats. Maybe your mom can find some of those.
Roxie, Sammy & Andy

Love Clover xo
They stole your blood TWO times??? Ouch. I don't think you're fat Lorenza...you're curvy. Divas can be curvy.
I hope the test can tell your Mom what's wrong. Thyroid problems are very treatable.
Good luck.

Deefor
Don't worry Lorenza and Mommy, it'll be ok. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.
lorenza, es rerrible lo que te pasa, a mi me encantan los helados. ire a revisarme al vet
Lorenza, peepol sometimes have thyroid problems and they can take medicine for that. I would think that dogs can take medicine too for it!! So, I do not think there is much to worry about.
We have our paws crossed that your blood test has good results!!
Hey Lorenza, Please tell your mum not to worry. Thyroid trouble is manageable and I'm sure that if that IS the problem, you'll get lots of good advice from other DWB pals with similar conditions. Your vet seems very nice and it sounds like he really cares about you. I'll keep my paws cross for you. J x
Lorenza!
Please give your mama some extra goober smooches. I'm sure she's worried (cuz she loves you), but I bet you'll be fine no matter what the doctor finds out.
Good thing you know Butchy and Snickers. I'm sure they will have all kinds of good information for you if you need it.
Goober love & healing smooches,
