Soooooo cold......!

It has been sooooo cold here! Thursday night we had 10°F!!! Another record. The worst since 1954! And of course nobody here was prepared for this!
Next monday is a holiday for us. My mom had been thinking all the week about a very nice and relaxing long weekend buuuut... her weekend did not start as she had planned!
Yesterday morning we woke up as normal, she took a shower and then she went to work. There, almost everyone were complaining about not being able to take a shower because the pipes in their homes were frozen. My mom thought she was lucky. Then at 1pm, my grandpa called her to say that the pipes in our house were broken! My mom found a plumber but he came to our house at 9pm. He fixed the pipes and then he found lots more of leaks. He did not have material to fix them so he said he would come today but asked to my mom to buy the new pipes and connections.
Soooo, very early this morning my mom went to find the materials. And... oh-boy! it was a hard task! Almost all the "plumber stores" were out of cooper materials! She came back around 11am with them!
The plumber came again... and he needed some more couplings! There she went. It was crazy to see all the people trying to find connections. Well.... it was until 4pm that everything was fixed! And we hope the temps will not be that low again because my mom could not find those tube covers needed to prevent freezing!
We have only a small heater in our house. Not enough to keep us warm. I have no problem because I just go under my pawesome blankie and I am ok but you should see my mom. She is wearing her pj's, a very thick sweater, 3 pars of socks and gloves! Haaaa! I wish I could take a picture of her!
And she did something else...

These very nice socks were given to my mom as a present these past Christmas. They were in the closet because it was not so cold to wear them and now...

Haaa!
They became pawesome "butt heathers"!
And this is how I spent almost all day long!
I hope that Phill is right and the spring is coming soon!
Have a good night
Besos

LOL! I love that your mom used socks as toilet seat warmers!

And you look all snuggly in your blankie. :-)

Your mom is so clever, Lorenza!

I don't know if it would help, but here what we do when it's so cold is to leave the cabinet door under the sink open and the water running a little bit - that helps keeps it from freezing. And if you can't find those insulating covers, try wrapping the pipes in rags - that might help too.

Stay under the covers until Spring!

Seconding (or thirding?) the recommendation for cabinet doors open and leaving the faucets running (or, at least, dripping). If your mail wasn't so slow, I'd send you a heater, but it would probably be summer before it got there!

I saw a story that a Mexico zoo lost 30+ animals due to a power failure and the freezing temps. Hope it gets warm there soon!

Very good thinking from your Mom!

Sometimes its good to get some extra insulation into your house too.

We are tired of the cold but still have a couple of more months to go with Old Man Winter!

BOL - we love your new butt warmer:) Very clever. So sorry about the broken pipes. Does your Mom know that it is supposed to help if you leave one faucet running with just a trickle when it is very cold? Oh we see Charlie told you about that. We hope it warms up and you don't have any more problems with the pipes. We also hope it didn't do any big damage to all of Mom's redecorating. The weather in the world sure is crazy.

Stay warm - that fleece blankie looks like it would be very warm.

Your mom is a very clever lady!!

Tell mom to leave all her faucets dripping and to cover the exposed out door pipes with what ever she can find (socks?). If there is an exposed pipe in the house, like under sinks, put a lamp without the shade there and leave it on.

Layer clothes for warmth and sleep close to you!!

10F....crazy. It was 40F here and we were roasting since it has not been that warm in months. Light bulb to warm the pipes- a good idea. Eat oatmeal and boil some water (pasta?) to keep the air moist. You are not going to have a snow storm are you?

Thanks for your kind words. Au is eating a little several times a day so I'm crossing paws he's getting better.

That was so funny! Socks on the toilet seat! It was a pretty good idea though and Grammy is thinking about going to the store for some long tube socks! Grammy got a blankie just like the one you were wrapped in, and Mama Dott just loves to get in under it and snuggle down. Our people have used towels, blankets or old rags to wrap the pipes in or just left the water to run a little to keep the pipes from freezing.

We were up to the mid 60's today, but it is supposed to go back down again this coming week. At least Grammy's pneumonia is better, though she is still weak... The CCC
