Helping my mom...

Almost done!

This past week was not the best for my mom and to make it worse we witnessed something very sad that made my mom cry and me felt very stressed.
Last thursday, my mom made and appointment with my Vet to have my nails done. As you know he is getting married today and will be in his honeymoon for 3 weeks.
So, we went there at 6 pm. His assistant asked us to wait a little bit because he was with a patient. So we waited. Half an hour later a man with a little poodle came out and he sat beside us. My mom asked him about his doggie. He told her that she is 17 years old and was not feeling well. While this happened my mom notice I was looking at the doggie. I did not try to be close to her. Then I started drooling (I only do that when I feel stressed). It was like I knew something bad was happening. Then a lady came to the clinic. It was the man's wife. She took the doggie in her arms and asked him about what the Vet said. He told her in a very low voice and then she started crying. And of course my mom too. Me? still looking at the doggie and more drooling. The Vet came out of his office and called them. They were there for another half hour. Fortunatelly, my mom had tissues in her bag to clean her tears and my slobbers.
Finally, they came out and it was my turn. My mom wished them the best.
My Vet told my mom that he had run several tests for the doggie and that her organs were failing due to her age. He told them that she was not going to get any better but he could give her meds to avoid some pain. They told him that maybe the best was to let her go but they wanted a last night with her. My mom started crying again. He understood what my mom was thinking and told her nice words. Me?? More drooling. He noticed I was stressed. He said we dogs know.
When he finished with my nails, we wished him the best too and a happy honeymoon.
We came home at 8 pm. I had my dinner and we went to sleep. I could not sleep. More drooling... and more drooling. My mom was worried. And for the first time in 2 years, she did not turn on the laptop to check your blogs. She just came to bed to hug me. I am not very good cuddling but this time I let her do it. We finally fell asleep at 11 pm.
When we woke up next morning, my mom asked me how I was feeling and I was back to normal.
My mom? She says she is not ready to accept that there is always an end.
Today I helped my mom with the cleaning thing and then we went out for a nice walkie. Then we had lunch and we decided to have a lazy afternoon watching golf and the Yankees game. Santos play tonight. I wore my lucky dress this morning so I hope they win!
Have a good night

It is very hard to say good bye, Lorenza. And when we see it happening to someone else, it really makes the reality of life and death hit hard. We are so sad for that little poodle and family.

Here's to a much better week next week for you and your Mom.

Hugs,the OP Pack

OP Mom said it better than I could, I think. My Mom says when we get a pet with a life span that is much shorter than the humans, we have to accept that, even though its very hard and very sad.

Stella, who can't say anymore.

What a wonderful human your mom is to skip the blogs and cuddle with you when you were so stressed. Well, when both of you were so stressed. We hope you are both okay now.

Oh Lorenza, that was so very sad. I'm sorry you and your Mom had to go through that. Makes you wonder how Dr's, nurses etc deal with it every day.

Oh Lorenza....

No matter how far away we are from each other....nor what our cultures are.....people who love dogs have a connection with each other that miles and different customs can't break. Letting go is one of the hardest things in the world but we all have to face it sometime. Sometimes tears help to wash away the pain that saying good bye brings....

Ya are sure a great help ta yer Mom....everyone knows yer Gram loves ya too....and yer the best dressed doggie in all of Mexico...ya have a lot to be thankful for....and we are happy that ya are our friend too.....

Oh Lorenza, my mom cried a river while reading this post.
The story of this poor 17 years old poodle tenderly reminded my mom the last time she took my angel brother Ringo to the Vet and left there without him.
Our hearts go out for you, your mom and the poodle's family. RIP, sweet 17 poodle!
Kisses and hugs

You're a very sensitive girl to know that little poodle was near his last day. It was so kind of your mom to comfort that sad couple. I know you and your mom will appreciate each and every day you have together, and there will be many of those!

Hi Lorenza, I hope you and your Mom are feeling better. You have both been having your share of troubles lately. It is so sad to say goodbye to someone you love. My Mommy has had to do it with other pets and she is said for that family, but 17 is a long life and it must have been time for her to run free across the rainbow bridge.

licks and sniffs, Sasha

Hi Lorenza,
Your story made my mom leak too.. she too does not understand why there has to be an end.. why must death take away what we love??
We feel so sad for the couple and the poodle.. ((sigh))

My mom is tearing too...
I know it is heard to accept this situation.
Please hug your mom for me.

Sweetheart, there is just never a good time to say goodbye to someone you love. You could spend a thousand years with someone and you would ask for just one day more. Losing someone you love leaves a cold chill in your soul...

Martha Basset said...

Oh Lorenza
We know how hard that time is and our mum would have been right there crying along with yours.
We are thinking of that little poodle and family.
Our mum has had to say goodbye too many times in her life to dogs she has loved so much.
Sometimes the hardest part has been that other people think she is silly!
Thank goodness she has found DWB cos we may not have the right words but we all know and feel in our hearts what your mom is feeling.
On a brighter note you are fine Lorenza and with pretty trimmed nails!
Lots more life to live and enjoy - we love that dogs live for the day with no thought of tomorrow.
We do so hope your mum has a better week.
love and kisses

What a good girl you are to cuddle with your mom (and to help her with making the bed). I am sure that visit to the vet was very stressful for you both.

Going to the vet is stressful enough-
But wow, that was really hard!
We feel so bad for the poodle's family.

Glad you and your mom got to cuddle. Stay sweet,

Hi Lorenza,

We are very sad to hear about the poodle and her family. It is not fair that we get older so much faster than the hoomans. Why do they get to stay when we have to go??

You are a terrific mom's helper!

I read once that the secret to a happy ending is to know when to stop the story, because if you keep going long enough, you come to an end like that one.

Hi lorenza, I hope you and your mom are feeling better. The loss of a loved one is something we all share, but maybe you showing how you cared for the poodle some how made it feel a little easier, sometimes just being there is a nice thing to do.

hi Lorenza, that's such a sad story about that little poodle, but 17 years is a very long life! our mom says that we dogs don't know that someday we will die. she can't stand the thought of it because she says we are supposed to be together forever. it's the saddest thing ever and time goes by too fast.

we hope that little poodle is in heaven now. that's the only good thing that we can think and we don't really know if we believe it. those poor people must be very sad... now we are sad too...

that was nice of you to cuddle with your mom a little bit.

The poodle here is dog #3....When he forst arrived, sometimes he got called by the previous dog's names, even though they were shar pei and were totally different. On an even graver note, the poodle down the street was inherited from a grandma who had to leave the Earth....fortunately the next generation of humans stayed around to keep him company. The only solution is to have African grey parrots or elephants as pets....

It's so hard to say goodbye, be it a our pet or a stranger's pet. We're keeping the little poodle in our prayers... hoping that it enjoys rainbow bridge.
